Few years ago, I embarked on an incredible adventure for my Naganess Mekhela Series Project, capturing the essence of traditional culture in the breathtaking village of Mao, Manipur. My journey began with a scenic road trip from Kohima to Mao, a drive filled with anticipation and excitement as we navigated through lush landscapes and vibrant local life.
Upon arrival, I donned a beautiful Konyak Traditional Mekhela set that showcased the rich heritage of the region. The intricate patterns and vibrant colors of the fabric reflect the artistry and craftsmanship of the Konyak people, making it a perfect representation of their culture. Styling this look was a joy, especially with the stunning accessories I sourced from Imphal. Each piece told a story, adding depth and character to my outfit.
I was fortunate to have Designer/Stylist/make-upArtist Keds Krome as my makeup artist for the day. Her talent brought my vision to life, enhancing my features while keeping the focus on the traditional look. To add a modern twist, I paired the Mekhela with a thrifted turtle net sparkling top from Gucci, a blend of contemporary style and traditional elegance that I absolutely loved.
The highlight of the day was working with Pfuneo Krichena, my official photographer, whose keen eye and expertise captured the magic of the moment. Each click of his camera told a story, encapsulating the spirit of the village and the beauty of the Mekhela.
This photoshoot wasn’t just about fashion; it was a celebration of culture, community, and connection. I am grateful for the experiences, the people I met, and the memories created in this beautiful corner of the world. Stay tuned for the stunning visuals that showcase the vibrant culture and traditions of the Naga people.
Join me as I delve deeper into the heart of Manipur and explore the narratives woven into each piece of clothing and accessory. Thank you for being a part of this journey with me!
